Eagles knock off Warren Co. in shootout

What started off as a defensive dominated game ended up being an offensive shootout.
Shelbyville Central Golden Eagle's scored 25 points in the second half to claim a 32-31 win over visiting Warren County in a Region 3-6A matchup for their first win of the season on Senior Night on Friday.
The win was hugged in a number of ways as the Eagles (1-7, 1-2) have now earned a berth in the TSSAA State Playoffs.
"I am so proud of these guys. This was a total team win with guys stepping up and doing whatever they could to help us win this game," Shelbyville Central coach Jud Dryden said. "With our top three running backs out with injuries, we had our kicker (Ben Betzelberger), offensive lineman/linebacker (Logan McBee) and receiver (Maddox Wright) step up and run the ball in the second half to help us win this football game."
After a scoreless first half, Warren County held a 17-7 lead at the halftime with Shelbyville Central getting on the board off a two-yard pass play to Micah Threatt from Jake Preston.
The second half was full of excitement with the Eagles outscoring their opponent 25-14.
Betzelberger connected on a 25-yard field goal and Wright scored on a four-yard run as the Eagles cut the lead to 24-17 going into the fourth quarter.
McBee scored on a three-yard run with 4:31 left to play and the point after tied the score at 24-24.
Brayan Grayson scored for the Pioneers just over a minute over and the point after put Warren County back up by seven.
The Eagles were not done yet, as Jake Preston hooked up with Bron Ranson on a two-yard pass play with 0:11 left on the clock.
Wright ran in the two-point conversion for the one-point victory.
"During a timeout, our guys said when we score we are going for two to win the game. They called it and they made it happen," Dryden said. "What a great effort to score those two touchdowns in just over four minutes. This team didn't quit and they haven't all year."
Preston connected on 18-of-32 for 229 yards.
Threatt hauled in four passes totaling 86 yards, sophomore William Bobo had five receptions for 74 yards and Ranson caught five for 50 yards for the Eagles.
McBee had seven rushes for 52 yards while Wright had seven touches for 42 yards to go along with four catches totaling 19 yards.
Grayson led Warren County with 138 yards a dozen touches.
Shelbyville Central travels to Summit on Friday night at 7.
