Shelbyville Central senior Brady O'Neal has signed a letter of intent to continue his education as well as play golf at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski.

O'Neal is looking forward and is planning on taking advantage of this opportunity he has earned.

"I am blessed and excited for the opportunity to play golf at the next level as it has always been a goal of mine. I had always planned to further my education. Upon touring Martin Methodist, I found that the programs offered meet what I am looking for and they could provide the best education to suit my needs. Not only will I have the opportunity for a great education, I will also get to play the game that I love," O'Neal said.

"I really like the atmosphere of the campus and being a small campus, it was easy to see the opportunities to have close relationships with students and professors. I had the chance to meet with some of the players on the team and they were very welcoming and honestly made me feel a part of the team as just a recruit. I also get the opportunity to play with three good friends that I have competed against over the past four years that have recently signed with Martin."

O'Neal's coach at Martin will be a familiar face to him as former Shelbyville Central golf coach John Dochety recently accepted the head golf coaching job at Martin.

"I have known coach Dochety for over five years now dating back to when he helped coach our JR. PGA team to a state championship. I have had the opportunity of having him as a coach for the past two seasons at SCHS,” O'Neal said.

"I feel that Coach Doc has a strong passion for the game as well as a greater teacher. I have a great relationship with him and look forward to working with him over the next four years."

His future college coach is excited to continue their relationship as well.

"Brady is a talented athlete and a wonderful person and I am blessed to have been his coach for high school golf at Shelbyville Central and now at Martin Methodist."

O'Neal's experience playing golf at Shelbyville Central and on the junior circuit in the summers have helped prepare him for the next level.

"It was a great experience playing golf the past four years at Central with my friends and teammates. We enjoyed a lot of success, advancing the the regionals three out of the four years of my high school career. I have had the opportunity to play against great competition in our district and region," O'Neal said.

"I have had an absolute blast playing junior golf over the last six years. I’ve been able to play some amazing golf courses but more importantly I have been able to compete and make life-long friendships with some of the best golfers in the state. Also, I would like to thank everyone at River Bend Country Club for their support of junior golf. The board and staff have always been very supportive of junior and high school golf. We are fortunate to have these opportunities in Shelbyville."

O'Neal is a member of the Golden Eagle baseball team as well and plans on majoring in business management and possibly attaining his masters degree at Martin.
