SEWANEE — Shelbyville Central shutout Coffee County 3-0 on Tuesday night at the University of Swanee to advance to the district title match.
The Golden Eagles faced Franklin County on Thursday night in Winchester.
“We had a last minute field change to accommodate the wild weather this week,” Shelbyville Central coach Chris Fritz said. “We would like to thank Sewanee for letting us use their amazing facilities.”
“The game was a bit sloppy because we made a point to play many of our up and coming players. We had a total of 21 players get significant minutes in this game including seven sophomores and two freshmen,” Fritz said.
“Coffee was much more prepared this time and played with a ton of grit. We had to exploit spaces behind their high line.”
Senior Arnold Avila put the Eagles on the board first when he hit a clean shot off of some team play around the box.
Freshman Jared Taylor scored the second goal from a Yahir Cervantes through ball right before halftime.
The Eagles (11-6-1) final goal came in the closing minutes of the game when freshman Fernando Gallardo scored off an assist by sophomore Ben Betzelberger.
