In a game where the two teams combined to make 19 three-pointers, Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes cruised by Lawrence County 60-50 in a District 8-AAA matchup at Rick Insell Gymnasium on Thursday night.

The Lady Wildcats netted 10 3-pointers while the Eaglettes canned nine.

"Were shooting the ball better and that's because we are shooting with more confidence. We are moving the ball around better and we are starting to learn where everybody is on the court," Shelbyville Central coach Jen Hicks said.

"We are trying to get in as many reps as we can and it's starting to pay off."

The Eaglettes took control early and built a 21-11 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Standout freshman Paige Blackburn scored 10 of her 19 points in the first stanza.

"I think it was huge for us to get that big lead early. Our confidence just grew after that," Hicks said.

Shelbyville Central posted a 33-21 halftime lead.

Lawrence County cut into the lead backed by an aggressive full-court-press and tied the game at 37-37 in the third quarter but the Eaglettes found a way to break the press and led 45-39 going into the fourth quarter.

"We did struggle some with the full-court pressure but our young girls really grew up in this game," Hicks said.

Shelbyville Central regained control of the game and led as much as 17 points in the fourth quarter.

"The girls are learning how to cut off the passing lanes and that is leading to some transition points and easy buckets, Hicks said.

Blackburn finished with 19 points to lead the Eaglettes while Dearing collected 16 and Kelsey Harden 15.

Carson Gobble and Madison Tidwell each scored 10mpoints to lead Lawrence County.

The Eaglettes (6-4, 2-2) faced Tullahoma in another district contest on Friday night at 6.
