CORNERSVILLE - On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Champs drew first blood but it was Cornersville who had the last laugh.

The Lady Bulldogs plated eight runs between the first and second innings as the home team held on to beat Cascade 8-2.

Lani Jones was the spark plug that got the offense going for Cascade with a lead off single in the top of the first inning.

After stealing second, she eventually scored on a Cornersville error.

She went on to score Cascade's second run in the third frame on a single by Caitlin Fannin.

While Jones got Cascade going at the plate, for Cornersville, it was a three-spot in the bottom of the first inning and some heavy hitting in the second that allowed the Lady Bulldogs to take the lead and take total command of the scoreboard.

In the first, drew three walks and put another runner on base with a hit batter.

Coupled with a handful of errors in the field, Cornersville rallied to the 3-1 lead by the end of the inning.

Things continued to tilt the Lady Bulldogs' way as Cornersville connected for two doubles and a triple in the five-run second.

In all, Jones led Cascade with a pair of hits and two runs scored, while Vera Bilbro, Cheyenne Simpson, Audrey Perry and Baylee Gipson all accounted for hits.

Bailey Olive and Brianna Horn split time in the pitcher's circle, each pitching three innings.

Olive got the start and pitched the first three innings before Horn took over and silenced the Cornersville bats.

In the final three innings, she gave up just two hits, but recorded a pair of punch outs and didn't allow a run to score.

Cascade returned home on Monday evening to face Eagleville and will travel to Brentwood on Tuesday afternoon.
