*** 'Elitist' threat alleged

To the Editor:

Mark Hendrickson recently wrote an article for Epoch Times that is reprinted by AMAC (with permission), that needs to viewed by every American.

"There are men [and now women] in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." -- Daniel Webster

"As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."-Abraham Lincoln

The potential threats to our liberty, that Lincoln warns us of ambitious individuals of the type described by Mencken and Webster. These folks are seeking power to impose their own private, elitist vision on the American people: Socialism. Our best defense against such lust for power is to uphold and abide by the Constitution and laws. We must be zealous in protecting our rights and liberty from being subverted.

The four quotes above are cited because our system of laws and government are under attack; our rights and liberty, also.

We have people in our society who think they know the "right path" to move the country forward, but they crave power to force their plans upon the American people. They are willing to trample on the Constitution, our laws and traditions, if that is what it takes to achieve their goal. The most obvious collective move in this direction is the democratic socialist.

Within the last month, five US senators -- Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), and Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) -- have launched an ugly attack against the Supreme Court. They have issued a two-fold threat- first, to make life miserable for justices who vote contrary to the desires of the Democratic Party; second, attempt to restructure the Supreme Court itself if the conservative judges don't change the way they vote!

These senators are seeking to intimidate and control what cases the court hears and what decisions the justices render. They are committing aggression against the hallowed principle of separation of powers. They say they want to reduce politics in the court, but at the same time trying to coerce the court to rule in accord with their agenda. One word describes this: Hypocrisy.

The Electoral College is also being attacked. The National Popular Vote initiative seeks to bypass the constitutional mandated Electoral College by awarding the state's electoral votes to the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide rather than in their own state. Fifteen states and District of Columbia (all governed by Democrats) have enacted this legislation. If this is allowed, smaller states will have no say in the election. Democrats howl in protest when voter rolls are purged of dead people and duplicate voter registration, but have no compunctions about disenfranchising a majority of actual voters in their own states. A recent decision of the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that electors can vote for whomever they want for president, regardless of any state laws. As I see it, this is an invitation to corruption and voter fraud.

The National Popular Vote and recent court decision makes a mockery of our principle of representative government.

You might think it would not be possible for presidential electoral to be bought off. Afterall, we could have the FBI monitor their finances, right? What if the FBI itself has become politized and lawless? What if top officials decide that, for the good of the country, they need to abandon impartiality and instead actively intervene to decide who will become President of the United States? That is where we are in the post-Jim Comey era! It is plain, our republic is in jeopardy when top officials believe they are above the law.

Just as we see the dangers of Comey and the "deep state," we see another unelected wannabe kingmaker, William Dudley, a former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In a brazen opinion column on Bloomberg.com on Aug. 27, Dudley floated the notion the Fed might be justified in adopting policies that would prevent the reelection of President Trump.

To suggest that the Fed act to tilt the election of the most powerful office -- the president -- toward the candidate of its preference is an egregious affront to our system of government.

All Americans need to be alert to what is going on around us, even though most of the actual plotting happens behind closed doors. The Constitution and laws of America has kept us free for over 200 years. Remember President Reagan's warning: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction."
