Almost 10 years ago, I moved to Bedford County to take on the role as sports editor at the Times-Gazette.

There have been a lot of memories throughout the years and a lot of significant news events I've had the honor of covering.

The primary job of someone working in the news industry is to report the local events without bias.

Trigger warning-I'm going to be biased with the following statement.

As sports journalists, we always tend to cover and recognize those in our beats, but rarely does anyone doing the reporting get any recognition.

I wanted to take time to just recognize the work put in by our sports staff, Gary Johnson and Rickey Clardy.

Again, trigger warning.

We have the best local sports coverage because of the time and dedication our staff puts into their craft.

Covering sports is certainly a fun job, but it can be demanding when you have three or four games at separate fields to cover at one time.

It's even more demanding when you consider the staff works more than one job.

Yet with their dedication and skill, these guys help make the best local sports coverage in the state.

So often in our profession, we tend to focus on who's in front of the and rarely who is behind it.

I wanted to take an opportunity to not only recognize these guys for their work and dedication to helping make our section so great, but also thank them for their dedication.

If you see them out on the beat, show these guys a little love.

The hours are long, the miles pile up and there's a lot of time spent away from home.

Yet no matter what, they're there through the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, delivering the highest quality local sports journalism in the business.

I've been to a lot of other places and with the state of local journalism being what is, it's rare to not only find such quality talent on staff, but to consistently deliver the best reporting at the local level.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, guys.
