Mr. Hershel Ivan Maurer, age 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, at his home, under the loving care and comfort of his family and Hospice Compassus.
A Celebration of Life Service, with military honors, will be 4 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Rev. Scott Reed will officiate. Visitatioin will begin at 2 p.m.
He was born February 27, 1938, in Carmi, Illinois, to the late Hershel Ivan Maurer and Vina Sturm Maurer. A veteran of the United States Navy, he worked in federal aviation as a flight controller for 31 years. He was a pilot and flight instructor. He held membership at Midland Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Maurer, in 2019; a sister, Barbara Rice, and a brother, Keith Maurer.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane M. Stierwalt, of Shelbyville, and Karen R. Marstein, of Arizona; grandchildren, Drew Stierwalt and his wife Jess, Kurt Mathews, Anna Mathews, Nikola Mathews, and Daniel Marstein, II and his wife, Alicia Peters; great-grandchildren, Matthew Hafey, Elyott Hafey, Victoria Hafey, Taylor Stierwalt, Garen Mathews, Melanthe Marstein, and Asterin Marstein.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
