Juanita Smelcer Darnell, 87, of Murfreesboro died April 1, 2023 after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Hillcrest Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m.
Juanita was formerly of Shelbyville; longtime bookkeeper for Model Laundry of Shelbyville and member of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. She loved to travel when she was able. One of her favorite things to do was spend time with her family, play cards and enjoy her grandchildren who affectionately call her "Nini".
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant A. Smelcer Sr. and Betty Lou Burton Smelcer; her husband of 52 years, Dorris Darnell; brother, Grant Smelcer Jr. and sister, Helen Smelcer Youngblood.
Juanita is survived by her children, Vickie Darnell (Steve) Zitney, Scott (Rhonda) Darnell; brother, William "Newt" Smelcer all of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Brad Zitney, Blake (Becca) Zitney, Britney Darnell (Jamie) Warren, Brandon (Morgan) Darnell; seven great grandchildren, Aiden Warren, Anna Scott Warren, Brody Zitney, Rhett Zitney, Turner Darnell, Luke Darnell, Leo Kate Darnell; niece, Leisha Boss and several other nieces and nephews.
