Lady Champs split early week matches

It's been an up and down start to the regular season for the Lady Champion volleyball team.

Cascade split a pair of early week matches, falling to Lincoln County in four sets on Monday, but winning in straight sets against Forrest on Tuesday.

Against the Lady Rockets, Cascade looked as dominant as the program has been, which is just in its second year of existence.

Led by senior Caroline McKamey, Cascade jumped on Forrest on Tuesday and never let off the throttle.

Cascade posted a 25-12 first set victory and followed with a second set win by the same margin.

The Lady Champs closed the match in the third set with a 25-10 win.

McKamey was the key force driving the Cascade win.

The Lady Champion senior recorded eight kills, two aces and a block in the win, while sophomore Ivy Womack chipped in eight kills as well.

Hayden Jones added four kills, seven assists and six aces against Forrest.

While a quick glance at the score sheet showed a 3-1 loss by the Lady Champs on Monday, a quick dive between the statistics showed a stellar effort that had Cascade competing in each of the first three sets but coming up just short.

In the opening set, the Lady Falcons edged out a 26-24 win over Cascade and took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-22 second set victory.

Cascade forced a fourth set by taking the third set, 26-24.

With momentum keeping Cascade in each of the first three sets, the Lady Champs point blank ran out of steam in the fourth set and fell, 25-12.

Cascade returns to action this afternoon for its first road match of the season at Culleoka.
