UNIONVILLE - The Community Viqueens led with 5:30 to play but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Forrest Lady Rockets scored the final 11 points of the game to defeat the Viqueens 49-41 in the semifinals of the District 12-AA tournament Tuesday night.

There were four lead changes in the first quarter as the teams looked to gain the upper hand.

Haley Mitchell nailed two treys as Community (11-11) took an early lead before the Lady Rockets ended the quarter with a 14-11 advantage.

The inside game opened up for the Viqueens in the second quarter.

M.J. Simmons netted 12 points as Community scored the first seven points of the quarter and took an 18-14 lead.

Forrest tied the game before Mitchell connected on a three-pointer with 59 seconds left to give the Viqueens a 26-23 halftime lead.

The Viqueens maintained a slim lead throughout the third quarter.

Mitchell stayed hot from the outside with two more treys and Simmons added four points as Community took a 36-34 lead to the final quarter.

Community traded baskets with the Lady Rockets and led 41-38 with 5:30 left when the bottom fell out.

With Laura Mealer leading the way, Forrest took its first lead since early in the second quarter at 42-41 with 3:27 to play.

The Viqueens could not find the basket as the Lady Rockets extended their lead with free throws down the stretch.

Mealer scored 31 points to lead the Lady Rockets.

Simmons scored 20 points and Mitchell added 17 to account for 37 of the 41 Viqueen points.

Forrest finished 15-of-22 at the free throw line while the Viqueens were 3-of-7.

"We didn't finish the game," Coach Cody Pierce of the Viqueens said. "We controlled it for the most part and had some turnovers late that cost us."

"We started well," Pierce added. "That wasn't our issue. We just didn't finish the last four minutes."

Community hosted Giles County in the consolation game of the tournament Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Giles County fell to Nolensville in the other district semifinal.
