A report of a domestic dispute at a Belmont Avenue home led to the arrest of a suspect on drug and weapons charges Wednesday, Shelbyville police said.
Trevarse Shamar Trice, 19, of Belmont Avenue was arrested after Officer Dylan Farrar smelled marijuana and saw marijuana in Trice’s vehicle.
A family member had called police, objecting to Trice bringing a gun into the residence. Trice allegedly threw a bag into a nearby wooded area afterwards. Police found the bag, which they said contained an unloaded handgun, ammunition and five small packages containing a total of 3.5 grams of a substance officers say is marijuana. The police report said a total of 41.5 grams of marijuana was seized, some from Trice’s SUV.
Trice allegedly said the substance is CBD from a shop in Miami obtained during a recent trip, that he hadn’t done anything wrong and that all he does is “work, smoke weed and go home.”
Trice was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug with intent to resell, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of an order of protection, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony; held, $12,000 bond
Improper nap
Charges were filed early Thursday against a driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle while stopped at the North Main Street-Lane Parkway traffic signal.
Officer Bailey Dineen noticed the vehicle of Tracy Lee Preston, 31, of Highland Circle didn’t move when the light turned green at 4:13 a.m. Preston failed field sobriety tests and smelled of alcohol, Dineen’s report said.
A cigarette container with a small amount of marijuana, dab pen, and rolled-up bill with a “white powdery substance” were confiscated from Preston’s vehicle.
Preston was charged with DUI, possession of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $4,000 bond.
Student charged
A school resource officer routinely checking cars in the school parking lot Wednesday noticed a shotgun in a vehicle, Sheriff Austin Swing said.
The officer talked to senior David Raine Sims, 18, of Big Springs Road. Sims told the officer he had been hunting and forgot he had the gun, accidentally leaving it in his vehicle. Sims was charged with possession of a firearm on school property. He posted $2,500 bond.
Didn’t stop
A driver who allegedly refused to stop for blue lights for more than a mile early Tuesday was charged with DUI, Shelbyville police said. Authorities received a call of a reckless driver and Sgt. Jimmy Rhodes of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office spotted Jeremaine Latroy Lyon, 38, of Carter Street inbound on U.S. 231 North.
Lyon was blue-lighted near Sonic Drive-In and didn’t stop until reaching the North Main Street-Fairfield Pike intersection, a BCSO report said.
Charges of second offense DUI, evading arrest, driving on a revoked license and financial responsibility were filed and warning tickets were given for reckless driving, speeding and improper passing, the report said. Lyon was held on $6,000 bond.
Drug charge
A drug charge was filed against a suspect Wednesday after an employee of a North Main Street convenience store she was in called police with concerns.
Jamie Marie Anable, 38, of Horse Mountain Road was charged with simple possession and violation of probation after .8 grams of marijuana was found under her vehicle’s driver’s seat. She posted $3,000 bond.
