Bedford County School System recently honored retired school superintendent Don Embry with a photo montage on its official website. We are sharing a few of those past memories here from his coaching days to the most recent days when he read Dr. Seuss stories to elementary students.

Embry retired from his long-held leadership position with Bedford County schools on Dec. 31, following 40 years of educational service. During those four decades, he worked as a classroom teacher, principal, coach and lastly as superintendent.

Bedford County Board of Education is currently in the process of hiring Embry's replacement. Long-time Bedford County educator and assistant superintendent, Karen Scoggins, is currently serving as interim.

Daniel Kleindienst, director of school maintenance, said recently, "Thank you for being a great principal for my children and an awesome superintendent and boss and friend to me throughout the years! I wish for nothing but blessings for you and Colleen as you start your new chapter! I'm sad to see you leave, but I'm very happy for you to be able to retire and spend more time enjoying and less time working and stressing! Thank you again for everything!"
