Shelbyville Central sent its seniors out on a high note, taking a pair of matches at H.V. Griffin Park on Friday afternoon from visiting Marshall County.
The Eaglettes took a convincing 5-2 win over the Tigerettes, while the Eagles had to grind out a 4-3 team victory.
For the Eaglettes, seniors Ainsley Noel, Emma Habel, Vivian Fernandez and Rachel Phillips all recorded singles victories.
Noel took an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot for the Eaglettes, while Fernandez had to grind out an 8-6 victory over Marshall County’s Abby Collins.
Habel and Phillips also won by scores of 8-3 and 8-2, respectively.
While Caitlyn Burdick fell short in the No. 2 seed for Shelbyville Central, she pushed Marshall County’s Annabelle Mulliniks to an 8-6 final score.
The two squads split doubles, with the duo of Noel and Burdick taking an 8-5 victory.
For the Eagles, Justin Spence, Zacari Draine and Hoyt Wessner picked up singles victories, with Spence taking an 8-4 win over Devin Bass.
Draine won in convincing fashion, downing Aiden Hurt, 8-1, while Wessner outlasted Anthony Smith, 8-5.
Addison Wilson and Wessner won their doubles match, beating Hurt and Anthony Smith, 8-4.
Friday’s match wrapped up the regular season for the Shelbyville Central tennis squads and sets up the Eagles and Eaglettes to enter the postseason on a high note.
Shelbyville Central will host the individual district tournament at H.V. Griffin Park on May 4 and 5.
