UNIONVILLE - On a rainy night in Unionville, the Community Viqueens used small ball, three home runs, and a 5-run sixth inning before the rains stopped play for good as the Viqueens defeated the Central Magnet Lady Tigers 13-9 in a rain-shortened District 12-AA game Thursday night.

"Super proud of them," Coach Cam Farrell of the Viqueens said. "Proud of the fact that some of the ones who have not been hitting came through with their bats."

The game included a 10-minute rain delay in the bottom of the first inning before the field was made ready for further play.

Community (17-9-1, 2-7) went ahead in the bottom of the second.

An RBI-double by Abby Brown followed by run-scoring bunts by Emma Bentley and Rilley Davis put the Viqueens up 3-0.

The Viqueens made it 4-0 in the third on a solo homer by Brianna Beech.

It was a long fourth inning for the Viqueens as the Lady Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs as Central Magnet took an 8-4 lead.

The Lady Tigers maintained their advantage before the Viqueens bounced back in the bottom of the fifth.

Beech led off with her second home run of the game and with two outs, Davis slammed a 3-run homer as Community tied the game at 8-8.

After Central Magnet took a 9-8 lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Viqueens responded in the bottom of the inning.

Abbi Murrill led off with a triple and scored the tying run as Beech settled for a double after narrowly missed her third home run of the game.

A bunt single by Haley Mitchell scored Beech and gave the Viqueens a 10-9 lead.

Bentley drove home two runs with a double to put Community up 12-9.

After the Viqueens added their 13th run, heavy rains stopped the game for good with Community claiming the district win.

Beech, Brown, and Kelsea Kupczyk each had three safeties to lead the Viqueen 17-hit attack.

"Really proud of Rilley Davis. She's kind of struggled a little bit and gets up and hits a key 3-run homer to get us back in the game," Farrell said.

"Both my seniors Brianna Beech and Kelsea Kupczyk came through with hits," Farrell added.

"Proud of everybody's energy," Farrell said. "When you bring energy, no matter who you're playing, it's kind of hard to deal with a team that's full of energy."

The Viqueens will host Nolensville in their final regular season district game on Tuesday.
