The Bedford County Republican Party hosted an appreciation event for all Bedford County School Resource Officers on Thursday, July 6. The event included officers from both the Shelbyville Police Department and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

Both agencies were presented with proclamations signed by State Rep. Pat Marsh and Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Cameron Sexton. Letters of appreciation signed by State Senators Shane Reeves and Bill Hagerty were also presented to Sheriff Austin Swing. Each officer was also given a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition signed by Representative Scott DesJarlais, as well as a gift card from the Bedford County Republican Party.

BCRP Chairman Bo Gill said, “Unfortunately, for many children, their initial interactions with the police are marred by negative experiences. By fostering positive relationships with our community’s youth, we can break the cycle of fear and reshape their perception of law enforcement. Through these interactions, we have the power to inspire young minds, instill a sense of safety and security, and show them that law enforcement officers are dedicated to their well-being.”

Gill continued, “I want to extend our deepest appreciation to every School Resource Officer. Your strength, respect, and leadership are the pillars that uphold the safety and security of our community.”
