McMINNVILLE – The Community Vikings were tied with the Warren County Pioneers midway through the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers made the plays down the stretch as the Vikings fell 58-56 in a Hall of Champions game on Saturday.

Evan Petrie led Community (1-1) with six points in the opening quarter, but the Vikings had a hard time containing Pioneer guard Dee Spates in the first half. Spates scored 11 first quarter points as Warren County took a 16-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Vikings rebounded better in the second quarter and were quicker to the ball as Community used two three-pointers from Corey Paterick to take a 24-22 lead. Spates scored eight of the Pioneer 14 points in the quarter as Warren County used four treys to take a 30-27 lead into halftime.

Will Reed scored nine points to keep the Vikings close in the third quarter. Each team scored 13 points as the Pioneers led 43-40 heading to the final quarter.

Paterick nailed another trey as the Vikings scored the first five points to take a 45-43 lead in the fourth quarter, but Community could not hold on to its momentum.

Warren County broke a tie with a three-pointer to take the lead for good at 48-45 with 3:39 left. The Pioneers were clutch at the free throw line down the stretch and connected on 6-of-7 foul shots in the quarter to secure the win.

Spates scored 24 points to lead three Pioneers in double figures.

Kaden Rutledge had 13 points while C.J. Taylor added 11.

Petrie led the Vikings with 16 points.

Reed netted 14 points while Paterick added 12.

"The kids played hard and Warren is a good team," Coach Robbie Davis of the Vikings said.

"They made some more from the three-point line than we did but we were there until the end."

"Both teams we have played so far won their AAA districts last year and returned most of their guys," Davis added.

Community played a home game against MTCS Monday night and will travel to Cascade for an intra-county matchup Tuesday night.
