UNIONVILLE - The Community Viqueens culminated an undefeated weekend with six victories over a 29-hour period by defeating the Culleoka Lady Warriors 12-2 in the championship game of their own Walking Horse Classic Saturday night.
The Viqueens won their first four games to gain the number one seed in the tournament portion of the Classic.
After beating Mt. Pleasant 7-1, Community faced the Lady Warriors in the title game.
The outlook wasn't rosy at the start for the Viqueens as Culleoka scored two runs in the bottom of the first and led 2-1 after two innings before the Viqueens erupted in the third.
The Viqueens sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs with the help of 11 hits.
A double by Hailey Farrar and a triple by Chloe West were the big hits early in the inning as Community secured the lead.
For good measure, Zoey Dixon drilled a 2-run homer over the left field fence to end the scoring in the inning and give the Viqueens a 9-2 advantage.
Community added three runs in the fourth inning to put a bow on its 10-run win.
Farrar and Abby Brown each had three hits to lead the Viqueen 16-hit attack.
"I'm super proud of them," Coach Cam Farrell of the Viqueens said. "Everybody did their part. They battled."
"Every win was not pretty, but they got it done," Farrell added. "Dealing with me as a coach is not always so easy, but they get in here and everything I ask they do."
"The kids are super respectful and the dugout is always cool, calm, and collected. I'm probably most proud of them for getting along in the dugout and being good to each other and helping each other out," Farrell said.
Farrell feels the play from the Classic will pay dividends the remainder of the season.
"We've got a couple of younger kids that gained some confidence," Farrell said. "We're not in an easy district, so we're going to have to battle."
"I think this definitely will help."
Community will travel to Harpeth Hall on Monday and visit Nolensville for a District 12-AA game on Tuesday.
