Virginia W. Bynum, age 94, of Shelbyville, passed from this life Tuesday, May 4, 2021, surrounded by her children at Viviant Health Care after an extended illness.
A native of Shelbyville, TN, Virginia was born March 13, 1927, to the late Willie and Virgie Thomas Winsett. She was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey F. Bynum; son, Roger Dale Bynum; brothers, W.J. and Grady Winsett; sister, Marie Allen; granddaughter, Sarah Rachael Bynum; and daughter-in-law, Darline Shavers Bynum.
She is survived by: children, W.C. Bynum, Rocky (Debby) Bynum, Joe Wayne Bynum, and Sandra (Jesse) Hughes, all of Shelbyville; sisters, Sue Partain, Elizabeth Fry, and Margaret Vajcner all of Shelbyville; along with 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bynum was a former manager of Kenwin's Department Store for 20+ years, and worked with Economy Pen & Pencil until she was 81 years old. She was also a homemaker having raised 5 children. She loved her family and was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Nannie" or "Granny B." She was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family would greatly appreciate that masks be worn during services if possible.
