Witness pins down burglary suspect

A man accused of attempting to break into a Morton Street home was chased down by the intended victim and held for police early Saturday.
Arriving officers found Brandon Lee Munsey, 29, of Rock Street pinned to the pavement in the middle of Morton Street by the man, who was not charged.
The victim said he was awakened by noise from an attempt to enter the front door. He and a friend looked outside and allegedly saw Munsey breaking into a vehicle.
Both men went outside and yelled at Munsey to get out of the vehicle. Munsey allegedly began coming toward them and was held down by the victim until officers reached the scene.
Munsey was too intoxicated to sit up without falling and was bleeding from a hand injury, Officer Clint Adams’ report said. Blood was splattered on and inside the vehicle Munsey allegedly entered, Adams said.
Charges of burglary, public intoxication and violation of probation were filed against Munsey. Police took Munsey from Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital following treatment to Bedford County Jail, where he posted $7.500 bond.
Resisting arrest
A woman who allegedly tried to pull her husband away from two arresting officers was taken into custody herself Friday on a charge of resisting arrest.
Virginia Hernandez Gaspar, 30, put her arms around the waist of Felipe Jose Felipe, 33, and refused officers’ orders to let go, according to Officer Darren Jenkins’ report.
Jenkins said he was able to pull Felipe away while Officers Sam Campbell and Dylan Bliss arrested Gaspar at their Bridlewood Drive home.
Felipe had allegedly fought Manuel Alvarez, 60, of the same residence. Alvarez was in turn accused of fighting another resident. Both suspects were charged with domestic assault and released on $3,500 bonds.
Gaspar was additionally charged with disorderly conduct. She posted $3,500 bond.
•An argument Friday allegedly led to a man pulling the ignition out of his wife’s car, police said.
Douglas Allen Howell, 35, of Maple Street was charged with aggravated domestic assault after allegedly hitting the woman in the mouth and strangling her.
Officer Tracy Teal’s report said Howell didn’t know how marks got on his wife’s neck.
Thefts
•Parts were stolen from vehicles and a garage at Corner Auto Sales, South Cannon Boulevard, over the weekend.
Security video shows five straight days’ worth of footage of a man and woman walking around the property between 11 p.m.-2 a.m. shining a flashlight at cars and parts. The white male is wearing a brown jacket over a white hoody and the woman a dark jacket and pink hood over her head. Both are wearing masks.
Catalytic converters and exhaust systems were taken from three vehicles, police said. An impact socket gun and four sets of sockets are missing from the garage.
