Nate Simmons was busy recently playing music for passers-by on the historic public square. Nate’s mission each summer is to collect funds for local teachers to use in their classrooms. Volunteer Garden Club members met at the Farm Bureau Building in  July for their annual picnic. Judy Pierce and Aleitha Kimbro were chairpersons. Everyone brought covered dishes. Alice Jensen did a presentation on horticulture.  Previously the club met at the home of Judy Pierce where members enjoyed her beautiful landscaping. Ann Spencer was our chairperson. Bedford County Economic Director Shane Hooper was recently wrapped with a Quilt of Valor for his service from 1993 to 1997 in the U.S. Marines. “We are fortunate to have Shane working for the betterment of our community!” said Amy Martin, QOV representative who presented the quilt. more
July is peach season. Nothing says summer like a juicy, refreshing, sweet peach and they're coming in fast and furious right now. We are lucky to have nearby orchards where you can pick your own or you can take the lazy route like I did and get the pre-picked or you can pick some up at your local market! The members agreed to assist with the annual library luncheon in October by providing the table decorations. The hostesses providing refreshments were Mary Alexander and Lynn Hulan. The June program was presented by Daryl Bernd with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. He presented a most informative and interesting program as he specializes in our area creeks, rivers, and ponds, and operates under the TWRA Fisheries Division. He has worked with TWRA for 35 years and covers 29 counties... more

The Shonta' Whorley Lamb Memorial Softball Scholarship is presented each year to a Shelbyville Central High School senior Eaglette softball player who is continuing the sport into college. This year's scholarship winner is Hannah Burks, right, who is planning to continue her game at Motlow State Community College. Hannah is the daughter of Paula and Chris Burks. Presenting the scholarship is Makenna Lamb, daughter of Shonta' Lamb. more
