Following the audit, Bedford County Jail successfully met 17 of the 20 required standards necessary to maintain its Tier 1 Accreditation.
This distinction, according to Bedford County Sheriff's Office, places Bedford County among only 29 of Tennessee's 95 county jails to achieve this level of accreditation.
Tier 1 Accreditation reflects a commitment to operating above the minimum standards established by TCI. In addition, Tier 1 status provides significant benefits to Bedford County. The State of Tennessee reimburses accredited facilities at a higher rate for housing state inmates, resulting in increased revenue for the County. This also reduces potentital litigation.
Jail Administrator Ronnie Prince said, "The Bedford County Jail will always strive to be the model facility for the entire State of Tennessee. We are commited to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and operational standards to ensure our facility serves as an example of what every jail should aspire to be."
