Golden Eagles Soar Over Rebels

Posted

The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles took care of the visiting Franklin County Rebels, 42-0, on Thursday night to pick up their second region win of the season.

Mason Shavers got the start at QB for the Golden Eagles, and he finished a solid 9/13 for 169 yards and 2 TDs, including a 71-yard bomb to Xzayvier Jordan in the second half through the drizzling downpour.

On the ground, Shelbyville utilized a strong running game to help compliment Shavers through the air. As a team, the hosts tallied 28 carries for 203 yards and 4 TDs. Robert Bailey gained over 100 yards for the fourth time in six games, and he now has 12 rushing TDs on the season.

Labron Ransom got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles near the end of the first quarter with a dazzling 45-yard TD reception that saw Shelbyville’s two way star bobble the ball about 15 yards downfield between the hashes, tip it to himself, and then outrun the Franklin County defense to the end zone. This put Shelbyville on top, 7-0, with 1:58 to go in the opening frame.

As the half grinded on, both teams were content to try and win the game through brute force and running the football. Fortunately, the Golden Eagles’ defense was more than up to the challenge, keeping the visiting Rebels from ever truly threatening their end zone.

Robert Bailey began to take over as he began to get more carries, capping off a long Shelbyville drive later in the second quarter with a 3-yard TD with 3:41 left to double his team’s lead, 14-0.

Bailey then showcased his breakaway speed with just seconds to go in the first half. On 4th down at their own 47-yard line, Jud Dryden decided to leave his offense on the field, and the Golden Eagles superstar tailback found a lane down the sideline for a 53-yard TD with just 21 seconds left in the first half to give Shelbyville a halftime lead of 21-0.

Robert Bailey (31) eclipsed 100 yards on the ground for the 4th time this season against Franklin County.

Much like the first 24 minutes, the Rebels would offer little resistance in the second half. As a team, they have scored less than 30 points on the season in a winless season, and the Golden Eagles took full advantage, tacking on three more touchdowns in the second half and emptying the bench late in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on a dominant 42-0 region win.

Franklin County falls to 0-6 (0-2).

Shelbyville Central improves to 5-1 (2-0) and will be on their bye this week. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, October 11, at Spring Hill, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 6:45 p.m.
