DALLAS – A pair of Middle Tennessee student-athletes earned Conference USA Scholar Athlete Awards for their respective sports, the league office announced Thursday.
Jalynn Gregory received the women's basketball honor, while Karim Al-Amin was named the men's tennis Scholar Athlete Award recipient.
Al-Amin, a native of Waltrop, Germany, also earned the Scholar Athlete Award for the first time. He holds a 3.932 GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology with minors in neuroscience and entrepreneurship. He was also named to the 2025 CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll and is an Academic Medal recipient.
On the court, Al-Amin was named CUSA Player of the Year after posting a 13-11 singles record at the top two positions. In doubles, he went 12-11 at the No. 1 spot and was ranked as high as No. 40 in doubles and No. 98 in singles nationally. He helped lead Middle Tennessee to its sixth consecutive CUSA championship and closed the season on a four-match win streak — all in straight sets.
Gregory, a native of Lafayette, Tennessee, earned the award for the first time in her career. A standout both on and off the court, she is currently pursuing a Master of Professional Studies with a concentration in strategic leadership, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The talented guard graduated in August 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology, with minors in biology and athletic coaching. She completed her undergraduate studies in just three years with a 3.58 GPA.
On the court, Gregory continued her reputation as one of the league's top perimeter threats, leading CUSA in three-pointers made (49) during conference play while shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc. She became Middle Tennessee's all-time leader in three-pointers made (344), ranking second all-time in CUSA history.
She also led the Blue Raiders in steals (2.2 per game) and shot 90.7 percent from the free-throw line, moving into second all-time in CUSA career free-throw percentage at 88 percent. As the Blue Raiders' top perimeter defender, Gregory played a pivotal role in helping MTSU post the nation's No. 1 scoring defense, holding every player she primarily guarded under their season averages during the 2024–25 campaign.
