Will illegal immigrant students be denied education in TN?

Bill passes that will require schools to check student immigration status

If students are not legal residents, a tuition will be charged

The Tennessee Senate has passed legislation that will require all Tennessee schools to verify citizenship or legal immigration status from incoming students, despite some GOP opposition and protests at the Capitol.
The controversial education measure would also allow Tennessee schools to charge tuition for students who can't prove their status and deny enrollment to students who can't pay.
On the Senate floor Thursday morning, the bill passed 19-13.
So, if the House passes the bill without changes to mirror the Senate bill, there will have to be a conference committee called to discuss the changes for the bill to be passed and sent to Gov. Bill Lee’s desk for signature.
