EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Middle Tennessee (4-6) fell to Southern Indiana (6-2), 59-76 on Sunday afternoon at Liberty Arena.
The Blue Raiders struck first off of a three-point play from
Yu Han Lin. Middle Tennessee held the lead until just over the halfway point in the first quarter, when Southern Indiana began to outscore the Blue Raiders.
Blair Baugus and
Macie Phifer each put up two points to add to the Middle Tennessee score, but the first quarter would finish with a score of 7-19 in favor of Southern Indiana.
The second quarter saw a tough rebound effort from Middle Tennessee, the Blue Raiders with almost double the boards of the Screaming Eagles. Baugus led Middle Tennessee with five points and three rebounds in the second; the Blue Raiders showcasing a well-rounded offensive performance to put up 18 points to Southern Indiana's 21, the score 25-40 to the Screaming Eagles entering halftime.
Middle Tennessee out-rebounded Southern Indiana yet again in the third quarter; Phifer leading the charge with five rebounds along with 10 points. The Blue Raiders shot better from three but ultimately was outscored by the Screaming Eagles yet again, entering the final quarter of the game in a 21-point deficit.
The Blue Raiders scored 17 points to the Screaming Eagles 13 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the scoring deficit, Middle Tennessee falls to Southern Indiana 59-76 as the clock expired.
Macie Phifer led Middle Tennessee with career-highs in both points and rebounds with 20 and 10 for her first career double-double.
Blair Baugus added another 10 rebounds and 11 points for her fifth career double-double.
