Cascade’s Lovvorn delivers on the mound, at the plate

Sawyer Lovvorn did a little bit of everything for Cascade on Monday night against Cornersville.
Not only was he nearly flawless on the mound, but he led Cascade at the plate with a 2-for-3 night, with a home run and three RBIs in the Champs’ 10-0 thumping of the Bulldogs.
Cascade was dialed in on Bulldog starter Tanner Mullins early and knocked the Cornersville starter around for four runs in the first inning.
After Mullins was pulled in the second inning, Cascade plated three more runs off reliever Peyton Cherry.
Meanwhile. Lovvorn was dialed in and didn’t give up much at all to the Bulldogs.
“Sawyer had a great night at the plate and on the mound. He had all three pitches working tonight and got in a groove early and carried it over the plate. All-in-all, could not be more proud of Sawyer and all our guys tonight,” Cascade coach Josh Hammonds said.
Cascade was held scoreless in just one inning, the third, and closed the game with two more in the fourth and plating a 10th run that forced the 10-run rule limit in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In addition to Lovvorn’s two-hit night, Conner Melson and Walker Craig both went for a pair of hits, with Craig connecting on an extra base hit.
Cornersville simply had no answer for Lovvorn, who went the full five innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out 11.

THURSDAY
Cascade 12, Culleoka 7

While their second game against Cornersville on Tuesday was canceled due to rainy weather, Cascade got back to work on its home field on Thursday night against Culleoka and it was a hot start that powered the Champs to a 12-7 victory.
In total, Cascade hammered Culleoka pitching for 10 hits, with three going for extra bases.
After plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning, Culleoka got on the board with a single run in the top of the second.
Cascade proceeded to plate four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Warriors answered in strong suit with three runs in each of the next two innings.
While Cascade brought out the bats and went for double-digit hits for the second game in-a-row as a team, the Champs committed and uncharacteristic six errors in the field, allowing Culleoka to score five unearned runs.
Seniors Ryan Inmon, Daxton Hittson and sophomore Conner Melson each went for a pair of hits against Culleoka pitching.
Cascade split work among three pitchers, with Zach Crosslin picking up the win on the bump.
He went 2 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on five hits, but just one was earned.
He struck out two.
Lucas Clanton worked 2 1/3 innings, striking out on, while not allowing a hit.
Sophomore Logan Green had the top line of the night for Cascade pitchers, striking out four and giving up two walks while not allowing a hit or a run.
Cascade returned to action on Friday night and capped a busy week at Covenant Christian.
