Champs fall in 8-A tourney

A five-run first inning was more than the Cascade Champions could overcome on Friday evening in District 8-A action at Moore County.

The Raiders plated five run in the opening frame and held on for the 8-4 victory over Cascade.

Cascade got one back in the top of the second inning following Sawyer Lovvorn's one-out single to right.

He scored during the next at-bat on a double by Walker Craig to put Cascade on the board.

The Champs continued to cut into the Moore County lead in the third frame.

Chance Brown led off the inning with an infield single and he later scored on a Raider error in the field.

Cade Whitson also scored on a RBI single by Ryan Inmon.

By the end of the third, Moore County led just 5-3.

Cascade got one final run in the game on a sacrifice fly when Alex Allison scored from third in the top of the fifth.

Moore County closed the game with three more runs, including two in the sixth.

Brown was the most consistent at the plate for Cascade, going 3-for-3, including a double.

Lovvorn also had a solid night at the plate with three singles.

Cascade split work between three pitchers in the game.

Zach Croslin got the start and was relieved by Jake Bates, who pitched five innings of one-hit baseball.

He also struck out nine.

Isaac Patterson also worked an inning in relief and struck out a pair of batters.

Huntland 7, Cascade 2

Errors and run an inconsistent day at the plate ultimately cost Cascade in a 7-2 loss against Huntland on Saturday.

Huntland drove in two runs in the bottom of the first inning and padded the lead with three more in the fourth inning.

Cascade finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning.

Logan McDonald led off the top of the sixth with a single to right.

He later scored on a Hornet error.

Isaac Patterson also scored on an error as well.

But even with the two-runs by Cascade in the sixth, the Hornets answered with two more runs in the bottom of the frame.

In total, Cascade connected on four hits, but were plagued by six errors in the field.

Isaac Patterson and Walker Craig split time on the mound for Cascade.

Craig got the start and pitched four innings, giving up just two hits, but struck out four.

Huntland plated five runs with Craig on the mound, but none of which were earned.

Patterson pitched the final two innings in relief and gave up just one earned run while striking out one.
