COALMONT — With Friday night’s 61-53 win over Grundy County, all signs are pointing towards everything clicking at the right time for the Cascade Champions.

The win marked the ninth-straight for Cascade and the 11th in the last 13 games.

Cascade burst out of the gates on Friday night and posted a 21-point effort in the first quarter, with senior Lucas Clanton doing most of the heavy lifting in the opening quarter.

He knocked down 12 of his team-high 20 points in the quarter, while Grundy County struggled to match pace.

The Yellow Jackets spread 12 points among four players, with Sam Parson, who led all scorers with 25 points, knocking down four in the opening quarter.

Cascade continued its excellent point production in the second period and added 19 more, but spread the wealth among five players, with Clanton and fellow senior Thomas Gentry adding five more apiece, including a three-pointer.

Senior Jayden Gulick also hit his second trey of the game in the second quarter as well.

By halftime, Cascade built a 40-26 lead over Grundy County and not much changed in the second half.

The Champs piled on 16 more in the third, with senior point guard added six more, while Grundy County was held to single digits and settled for nine points in the quarter.

With the lead well in hand for the Champs, it was Grundy County, led by Parson, who orchestrated an 18-point quarter to close the game.

Parson proved effective at drawing fouls and getting to the line, where he shot a perfect, 5-of-5 in the quarter.

He scored 11 of his game-high 25 points in the final quarter.

As a team, Grundy County connected on 11-of-15 free throw attempts.

While Cascade didn’t spend as much time at the charity stripe, the Champs proved effective, going 7-for-10 on the night.

Where Cascade made its living was from the perimeter, where the Champs cashed in on six treys, with Clanton knocking down three.

Cascade got a quick turnaround and faced Grundy County again on Monday night.
