The Bedford County Convenience Centers will no longer be able to accept any trash in the city’s blue trash cans, effective immediately. County Highway Superintendent Mark Clanton, who also oversees the county solid waste program, clarified the reason for the announcement, stating, "The Bedford County Convenience Centers recognizes that the City of Shelbyville 96-gallon issued carts are property of the City of Shelbyville. The city trash carts have a serial number and are assigned to the address of the resident, and they aren't to be removed from the assigned address. Therefore, Bedford County Convenience Centers cannot accept the blue carts for disposal as this would be a violation of the Shelbyville City Ordinance on trash regulations. Bedford County will continue to accept residential trash, except for the 96-gallon, city-owned trash carts, from city taxpayers. City of Shelbyville residents still have the City Transfer Station to assist with residential trash disposal during city-issued hours."
