All the scoring was in the first half as Shelbyville Central claimed a 2-1 victory over visiting Franklin County in the semifinals of the District 8-AAA on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles (8-5-3) will play for the district tournament title for the second consecutive year against Columbia Central on Thursday night at 7 in Columbia.
Cristian Ramos scored the first goal of the game off an assist by Daniel Juarez.
After the Rebels evened the score at 1-1, Yahir Cervantes found the back of the net off an assist by Yahir Cervantes assisted by Jonathan Medel.
"A ton of credit goes to Franklin County who had a great game plan and played hard. I am just happy our guys overcame the adversity we faced in order to go to back to back district championship matches," Shelbyville Central coach Chris Fritz said.
"Senior Pepe Vargas really stepped up to the plate tonight to help lockdown an entire side of the field."
"We are going to have to crank up the intensity and communication to give ourselves a shot against a talented Columbia team on Thursday," Fritz said.
