A valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter by Shelbyville Central came up short against PCA on Monday night as the Lions held on to escape with a 48-44 win over the Eagles.
Shelbyville outscored PCA 20-12 in the fourth quarter by working its way to the free throw line and knocking down opportunistic baskets.
The Eagles cashed in on 8-of-11 tries in the quarter, but just couldn’t finish the rally.
The two teams sat deadlocked at nine apiece after the first quarter, but PCA carried a six-point lead into the half after the Eagles only scored five points in the second quarter.
After being held to just 14 first-half points, the Eagles finally hit double figures in the third quarter by adding 10 more before erupting with 20 in the fourth quarter.
PCA’s Max McMurry was the only player to reach double figures in the game. He led all scorers with 17 points.
For the Eagles, Zay Reese and Devyn Heath each scored nine, while Kyler Trice and Jayshon Jones added eight apiece.
