Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagles started the new year off the right way with an impressive 58-54 come from behind win over visiting Warren County in a District 6 4-A matchup on Monday night at the Rick Insell Gymnasium.
Warren County jumped out to a healthy lead in the first half before the Eagles battled back in the third quarter and held on in the fourth period to secure the win.
“I’m very proud of my guys for the way they battled and found a way to win a tough district game down the stretch,” Shelbyville coach Kody Hoard said.
“I thought we did a good job of speeding them up in the second half which led to some easy baskets by us.”
After trailing 20-11 at the end of the first quarter and 26-19 at halftime, the Eagles outscored the Pioneers 15-5 in the third stanza to hole a 34-31 advantage after three periods.
Jayshon Jones came alive in the second half for the winners, scoring 13 points in the third quarter, followed by 11 in the fourth to lead the team with 28 points.
He canned four 3-pointers along the way.
“Jayshon Jones was big for us tonight. He hit some big shots and I’m proud for him,” Howard said.
