FFA volunteers help at animal shelters

The Cascade FFA is applying the FFA Motto: “Learning To Do, Doing To Learn, Earning To Live, Living To Serve.” Even in these trying times, the FFA members understand that the animal shelters must continue to serve and protect the animals in their care. The leadership team planned, coordinated, and conducted the annual feed drive that was held on Oct. 17.

Following health guidelines including social distancing and wearing masks, the chapter took donations at the Shelbyville Farm Center and the Bedford/Moore County Farmers COOP. In two hours, the members collected approximately 1,000 pounds of dog food, cat food and other supplies, to be donated at the local shelters.

The Leadership team contacted the shelters to arrange for delivery of the donated items and to volunteer. On October 20, nine members volunteered at the Bedford Animal Control from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The members helped organize the feed room, cleaned the cat room in addition to walking dogs and playing with the cats.

The following day, Oct. 21, six members provided the same services at the Shelbyville Animal Control. While there, the members discussed the needs of the shelter for future activities. It was decided that the chapter will conduct a towel and blanket drive in December with a workday for the members to be scheduled.

Cascade FFA would like to thank everyone that donated on the 17th and give a special thanks to Shelbyville Farm Center and the Bedford/Moore County Farmer’s COOP for hosting their feed drive.
