Frances Elizabeth Cowan Pistole, age 86, of Shelbyville, formerly of Franklin County, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 12, 2022.
Frances was born on May 31, 1936, in the Madison area, now part of Nashville, to the late Benjamin “B.A.” and Helen (Hall) Cowan. Frances was a devoted homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and cooking wonderful meals. In her spare time, you could find her sitting on the sofa watching her favorite shows, which included “Matlock,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “The Waltons,” and most recently “Law and Order” and “Heartland.” Frances was a faithful member of the Winchester Church of Christ in her younger years and currently County Line Church of Christ. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a humble, kind and very forgiving woman.  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar “Red” Pistole; daughter, Elizabeth Faye Pistole; and great-granddaughter, Myla Sophia Jade George Russell.
Frances is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon Shepler (William) Russell; son, Leon Pistole; grandchildren, Jared (Carol) Shepler, Shannon Waller, Jeremy (Jessica) Russell, Tabitha (Kozhi) Makai, and Veronica Vogelsong; great-grandchildren, Avah Waller, Shayn Hack, Bentley Russell, Brylee Russell and Kalwizhi Alexander Grant Makai; siblings, Faye (Irvie) Loudermilk, Ray Cowan, Dianne (Michael) Bush, Gayle (Les) Nicaise; and many close nieces and nephews.  
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, from 5-7 p.m and Sunday, December 18, from 1-4 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
