James “Jimmy” Austin Coop Jr., age 72, of Manchester, TN., passed from this life on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN.
He was born on January 19, 1954, in Shelbyville, TN., to the late James Austin and Sarah Limbo Coop.
Jimmy was a 1972 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School and later earned his bachelor of science degree from MTSU. His passion was carpentry, a craft he learned at a young age while working alongside his father. He carried those skills into his own business, Jimmy Coop Construction, which he operated for more than 40 years.
He loved classic cars and was proudly a “Corvette man.” Jimmy was a homebody at heart and found his greatest comfort at his place on Normandy Lake. He enjoyed hosting cookouts and barbecues for family and friends until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
Jimmy is survived by his significant other Cindy Ray; sisters: Connie (Rick) Smith of Beechgrove, TN and Carolyn (Ervin) Miller of Shelbyville, TN; nieces and nephews: Julie Smith, Blaine (Jennifer) Smith, Kelly (Patrick) Hall and Kyle
Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the
chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Joe Calvert officiating.
Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral
home.
