Funeral service for John Wayne “Bear” Womack, age 79, of Shelbyville, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Randall Harmon officiating. Mr. Womack passed from this life early Wednesday morning, December 14, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones after an extended illness. Per his request, he will be cremated following the funeral service.
Visitation with the family will be held 1-3 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday, at the funeral home.
A native of Bedford County, he was born on July 6, 1943, to the late James Sol and Alma Bennett Womack. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Emma Jean Moore Womack; and brothers, Ronald, Donald and Harold Womack. Bear was an auto diesel mechanic by trade and was a former member of the Bedford County Rescue Squad.
Survivors include children, Wayne (Jennifer) Womack of Shelbyville, James Womack of Decherd, Kathy (Charles) Grant of Shelbyville, Connie Harden of Shelbyville, and Paul Dale (Diane) Womack of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Becky Grant, Amy Grant, Ernest Sutton, Jr., Amber Smith, Kaitlin Cook, Kyle Womack, Tyler Womack, James Rutledge, Timothy Womack, Jacob Womack, Kaylee Womack, Kevin Eady, Jeff Eady, Olivia Harden, Brittany Heslar, Jamie Solomon, Justin Samples, and Casey Samples, along with 19 great-grandchildren; and brother, David (Joy) Womack of Shelbyville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bedford County Rescue Squad, 433 E. Depot St., Shelbyville, TN 37160.
