Karl Claxton, age 66, of Shelbyville, TN, passed from this life on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
He was born on February 22, 1959, in Laredo, Texas, to the late Donnie Gene and Estela Landin Claxton. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Kenneth “Flash” Claxton.
Karl was a 1977 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School. With the support of two close friends, he started his business, CHI. For more than forty years, he served families and businesses throughout Bedford County and the surrounding areas with steady dedication and pride.
He was well known on the softball field, playing on both local and travel teams and cheering just as enthusiastically from the sidelines. He was also a loyal UT Volunteer fan. Above all, Karl loved being a grandfather. He showed up for his grandchildren—at practices, at games, and in the everyday moments—and they were his greatest joy.
He is survived by his son, John Tyler (Jennifer) Claxton of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Bently, Ava, and Onyx; sister, Elizabeth (Rob) Rhodes; nephew, Donnie (Maleah) Claxton; and niece, Tiffany Claxton all of Shelbyville.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to New Destiny Dog Rescue @ www.newdestinydogrescue.org.
