It took 10 innings of work but in the end, the Cascade Lady Champions came through in the top of the 10th inning to edge Cornersville, 9-8, in the opening round of the District 8-A tournament.
There was plenty of offense to go around for Cascade, who hammered the Lady Bulldog pitching staff for 16 hits.
Cascade jumped out to the early lead with a solo-dinger off the bat of Lani Jones in the top of the first inning.
Vera Bilbro also blasted a leadoff homer in the top of the second frame.
After Jones' homer in the first, Cornersville answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
The two teams continued to push runs across the plate and by the third inning, Cornersville had built a 6-3 lead.
It was a three-run fourth inning that allowed Cascade to tie the game at six.
Claire Perry led off the inning with a base hit and later scored on a fielder's choice.
Audrey Perry also scored on a base hit as well.
But as quickly as Cascade was able to tie the game, Cornersville answered on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 7-6 lead.
Fortune struck in Cascade's favor in the sixth inning when Jones scored on an error to once again tie the game.
From there, both teams struggled to push a run across the plate until the 10th.
It was a two-spot by Cascade that proved to be the difference as Cornersville did scratch a single run across the plate in the bottom of the inning.
Brianna Horn went the distance for Cascade and pitched all 10 innings for the Lady Champs.
She struck out seven batters in the 10 innings pitched.
At the plate, there were plenty of heroic to go around.
While Bilbro had a four-hit night, it was catcher Cenzie McAnally that led the team.
She went 2-for-6 but accounted for four RBIs.
Cascade faced Huntland on Monday night.
