Bedford County Schools is pleased to welcome Laurie Trout as the new assistant transportation supervisor. With over two decades of experience in student transportation, Laurie brings an abundance of knowledge, leadership and an extensive passion for safety and operational excellence to the district.
Laurie began her career in school transportation as a school bus driver for First Student in Seattle, Washington, her hometown. What began as a temporary job soon blossomed into a gratifying career.
Over the years, she advanced into leadership roles, serving as a safety supervisor, dispatcher and eventually assistant contract manager overseeing operations. During that time, Laurie also earned her bachelor’s degree in business management, balancing work and studies with unwavering commitment.
In 2022, Laurie and her husband made the move from Seattle to Nashville to be closer to their daughter, Lacey, son-in-law, Alex and their three young children Xander (5), Dax (21⁄2) and Grace (11 months). In December 2024, Laurie and her husband settled in Shelbyville, eager to become active members of the Bedford County community.
“I was drawn to this position because it felt like coming full circle,” Laurie said. “School buses are where I started, and I’m excited to contribute my experience to serve the community I now call home.”
As she steps into her new role, Laurie is focused on learning the ins and outs of Bedford County’s transportation system, while also sharing the skills and insights she has developed over the course of her career. Her priorities include fostering a strong team environment, ensuring student safety and supporting continuous improvement in transportation operations.
“I love working in a team setting where we can succeed together,” Laurie shared. “If we make mistakes, we learn from them and grow stronger moving forward. My goal is to bring fresh ideas and help move the department in a positive direction.”
“Laurie’s dedication to safety, teamwork and community make her a valuable addition to Bedford County Schools and to the transportation team,” commented Director of Transportation Kenny Parker. “Please
join us in welcoming Laurie to Bedford County Schools!”
