LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Despite a strong offensive showing that included three home runs, Middle Tennessee fell to NM State, 16-8, Sunday at Presley Askew Field.
The Blue Raiders (19-25, 4-14 Conference USA) tallied 12 hits, led by Matt Wolfe, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs. Eston Snider added two hits, including a two-run home run, while Tyler Minnick also homered and drove in a run. Clay Badylak chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
MTSU surged ahead with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by Snider's homer and key RBI hits from Wolfe and Badylak. However, the Aggies responded with a seven-run bottom half to retake the lead for good.
On the mound, the Blue Raiders used five pitchers. Cole Torbett was charged with the loss, allowing five runs in relief. Starter Will Jenkins went 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
MTSU continued to fight, scoring two more runs in the sixth on Wolfe's two-run blast and adding another on Minnick's solo shot in the ninth. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
