New York — The Blue Raiders men's tennis team finished the ITA Kickoff tournament with a 4-2 win over Miami (Fla.), highlighted by stellar performances from the Blue Raiders.
In doubles, the Blue Raiders lost the point, but the duo of Rostislav Halfinger and Kacper Szymkowiak secured their match, marking their third win of the season as a pair. The teams of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak, as well as Shu Matsuoka and Jakub Kroslak, were defeated in their matchups against Miami.
Middle Tennessee regained momentum in singles play. Jakub Kroslak delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over Miami's Nacho Sanchez, earning his third win of the season. Freshman Kacper Szymkowiak made an impression with a 6-3, 6-1 win, showcasing his potential in his first season as a Blue Raider. The match came down to the wire, but Frenchman Igor Mandou Berranger sealed the victory, defeating Jules Garot 7-5, 6-4. His win clinched the overall match for MTSU and improved the team's record to 3-2 on the season.
Coach Borendame's Comments
"Miami battled hard. The doubles point was disappointing; we have to do better. Being up breaks on all three doubles courts and then losing the point is something we need to fix. It will improve, I promise. We got the win, but we have plenty to work on this week in practice as we prepare for a strong stretch of matches coming up."
