PULASKI - It wasn't the outcome they wanted in the District 12-AA opener on Thursday evening.

Despite a nine-hit effort, highlighted by a Brianna Beech grand slam, the Community Viqueens came up short in a 12-7 loss to Giles County.

Beech provided the heroics at the plate for the Purple and gold, bringing Community back from 7-0 deficit in with her slam in the top of the third.

Community had quality at-bats throughout the game and hammered out nine hits.

In addition to Beech's two-hit night, Hailey Farrar recorded a pair of hits while Abby Brown connected on three singles in four trips to the plate.

Giles County went into attack mode early and plated three runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on four in the second frame before the Viqueens were able to get on the board.

Community scored a fifth run in the sixth inning when Hailey Farrar crossed home plate.

The Viqueens scratched two more runs across the plate in the seventh but were unable to finish the comeback bid.

In all, Community was plagued by four untimely errors as well.

Haley Mitchell went the distance for the Viqueens and pitched all six innings while striking out eight batters.

Community returns to action in an elimination game on Monday evening.
