Roger Clayton Wright, better known as “Rocky,” passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Doak Howell funeral home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Pastors, Jimmy Gray and Tyler Shoemaker along with Robert McClain will be officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville, TN.
Visitation will be held prior to service beginning at 11 AM, on Thursday at the Funeral Home.
Rocky was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 15, 1955. He was 68, when he passed.
Rocky was the son of the late, Charles Franklin “Buck” Wright and the late Betty Jane Wilhoite Wright Lamb, and the late Jesse Lamb. He was widowed for almost 6 years after he lost his beloved wife, Betty Anderson Wright in 2018.
Rocky is survived by his children, Lauren (David) Garland, Lance (Taressa) Wright, and Tammy (Troy) McKinney; his sister, Beverly (Danny) Robertson; and a niece, Dana (Keith) Curtis. His grandchildren are: Kaiden Garland (Cade Fitzgerald), Brylee Garland, Mason Wright, Madox Wright, and he has one great grandchild Laynie Rae Fitzgerald.
Rocky was a graduate of Shelbyville Central High School with the class of 1973. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a proud of veteran. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He retired from Shelbyville Parks and Recreation several years ago. If you knew him at all, you know he was an avid sports fan and always cheered on the Detroit Tigers in baseball and the Tennessee Vols in areas of their sports teams. It is likely he could have won any game show in which you had to know sports history. You would definitely want him on your team! He surely loved the “Wright Side Cousins, Gracie, Kaiden, Mason, Buck, Brylee, and Madox and was proud of them and all their achievements over the years.
In his last days, Rocky was certainly ready to start his next journey. This one would be without pain, struggle, or suffering. He knew about God‘s Amazing Grace, and that was something he experienced all his life. He will be missed by many friends and family that loved him.
