(Shelbyville, TN) The district is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Cascade High School student who died as a result of an ATV accident over the weekend. This heartbreaking news comes during an especially difficult time for the school community as they also mourn the loss of a Shelbyville Central High School student who died last week in an automobile accident.
“Our entire school community is grieving,” said Superintendent Dr. Tammy Garrett. “Losing a young person is always devastating, and to experience two tragedies in such a short time has been incredibly difficult for our students, staff and families. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families and all who loved these students. We want them to know they are not alone; our district stands beside them with care, compassion and support.”
Cascade High School Principal Sandy Sorrells said the loss is being felt throughout the school. “This is a heartbreaking moment for our school family,” she said. “Our students and staff care deeply about one another, and we will lean on each other as we remember and honor her. Our thoughts remain with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
Following last week’s loss at Shelbyville Central High School, SCHS Principal Charlie Pope shared a message with students reminding them to hold close the people who matter most. “When tragedy hits, we are reminded how fragile life is,” he said. “None of us are guaranteed tomorrow. It’s important that we care for one another, support each other, and make the most of the time we have together.”
Additional counselors and support staff are available at our schools to help students and employees who may need someone to talk with as they process these losses. We encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out and take
advantage of these resources.
We ask our community to keep both students’ families in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this incredibly
difficult time.
