UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (9-9, 0-1) entered the fourth quarter with a slim 40-38 lead over the visiting Summertown Lady Eagles (13-4, 1-0), but ultimately were unable to hold onto the advantage, eventually coming up short, 59-47, to open the District 9-AA slate.

Summertown’s Ella Busby, who was recently named to the BCAT 2025-26 Class AA Player of the Year Midseason Watchlist along with Community’s Alyssa White, scored a game-high 28 points. Busby knocked down a couple of triples in the second quarter, and she finished 11-for-12 at the free throw line. She was the only Lady Eagle to reach double-figures on the night. As a team, Summertown went 21-for-23 at the foul line, and connected on eight total three-pointers.

For Community, Anna Haskins showed out with a team-high 23 points, finishing 9-for-13 at the charity stripe. White and Savannah Pearson chipped in with eight points apiece, but they were both held scoreless in the fourth quarter. The Viqueens went just 12-for-18 at the line and connected on just three triples all night.

Early on, Community took control on both ends, ending the opening period with a 13-9 advantage behind an aggressive Haskins. The Viqueens’ lead guard got to the line early and often, going 4-of-6 at the line and closing with six points in the period to lead the hosts. White looked like she was revving up to have a big night, nailing a couple of short-range shots in the quarter as well.

Then, in the second quarter, Summertown took over, outscoring the Viqueens, 18-12, to take a slim 27-25 lead heading into the halftime locker room. Busby scored 15 of the 18 points, bringing her first-half total to 19, and Zoei Bonner nailed her second three-pointer of the first half. Mattie Maxey earned a couple trips to the line, but went just 1-for-4, finishing with four points in the period after hitting a three-pointer.

Coming out for the second half, Community produced its highest scoring quarter in the third, outscoring the Lady Eagles, 15-11, to re-take the lead at 40-38 heading into the final frame. Haskins found her rhythm again, leading the hosts with eight points in the period. Meanwhile, Gabi Long knocked in a pair of triples as Summertown’s only field goals in the third. Busby also went 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Community struggled to score, and as Summertown extended its lead by connecting at the free throw line, Haskins attempted to keep the Viqueens attached. Haskins split a pair of free throws before knocking down a pair of two-point field goals, but Sara Flannagan was the only other Viqueen to register any points in the period. Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles finished 11-for-12 at the line in the final frame, outscoring the hosts 21-7 en route to the 12-point win.

The Viqueens fall to 9-9 overall. Community continues its homestand to open District 9-AA play on Tuesday when they welcome Cascade to Unionville in the first ‘Battle of Bedford’ matchup this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
