Work ethic lands Cascade’s Green with Welch

Posted

Jordan Green has always had a dream of playing college basketball.
That dream took a big hit over the years as she suffered a handful of injuries that could have ended her playing career.
Instead, Green persevered and made an incredible comeback on a path that eventually led her to signing her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Welch College.
“I had to work very hard to get back to where I wanted to be. I’m really thankful,” Green said.
Green’s signing was the first player for Cascade coach Kendall Hampton.
“It’s exciting for me to see anyone continue their athletic careers beyond high school, but it’s particularly exciting for her because it’s something she’s wanted since I’ve met her,” Hampton said.
“She’s worked hard for it. To see it come together for her, there’s not much more of a better feeling than that.”
Welch College, a small Christian college located in Gallatin, competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
When Green began her college search, the marriage of a small Christian school along with Welch’s need of a player to help in the post became a perfect fit for both.
“I’ve always wanted to go to a private christian school. I toured there and just really loved it,” Green said.
“They don’t have a lot of size on their team and so they needed a post player. Since that’s primarily what I play, they wanted me there.”
It wasn’t just Green’s size that can help in the post, but her work ethic that put the Lady Champion senior on Welch’s radar.
“I know what her work ethic looks like and I know the skills she has right now. Speaking from experience myself, she’s going to be able to go in and make an immediate impact,” Hampton said.
“I’m so excited for her to experience what it’s like to play at the next level and just continue that camaraderie with another team.”
Green echoed Hampton’s sentiments about playing at the next level.
“It’s really exciting. I’m really excited to go play in college. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of,” she said.
Green began her playing career at the Junior Pro level and has been an impact in the Cascade basketball community for years.
While she’s played in countless games, Green says the best part of it all was just growing close and spending time with her team.
“Just spending time with my teammates. That’s what makes it fun,” she said.
For Hampton, Green’s signing could have an even bigger impact on the Lady Champion basketball program in sending a message that finding a spot on a college roster is a possibility for just about any player who wishes to pursue a sport beyond high school.
“A lot of players don’t realize they can play. I think a lot of them sell themselves short and that dream kind of fades,” Hampton said.
“I think the girls that are on this team, seeing her sign this letter of intent today, gives them that reassurance that it’s possible, too.”
Green plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
