There have been some questions since Shelbyville City Council discussed Tuesday night, possibly having open container alcohol within its proposed Riverview Walk District.
See full study session story in the Sept. 4 Times-Gazette.
Some people are asking about the old law that pertains to distance between beer/ wine drinking and proximity to churches. Please note: Shelbyville City Council got rid of that ordinance a while back. That’s why you now have bar/restaurant establishments closer to City churches now.
As for the County, it’s still on the books that there must be 2,000 feet between alcohol and a church.
Thanks to those who commented Tuesday night on T-G Facebook about open container alcohol-whether you’re for or against. Some great comments! You may still comment, which could help Council in making its final decision.
As of this Facebook posting, the majority are for outdoor café style, social, drinking. As usual, some don’t care. I loved the guy who said, “well, they’re drinking in their cars, so what difference does it make?”
As Councilman Henry Feldhaus said, please don’t think it’s time to bring your ice chest full of beer. And no, you can’t BYOB or drop off a friend’s keg. That’s not the intention here.
More on this later.
