LYNNVILLE, Tenn. – The Cascade Champions (3-0) run-ruled the Richland Raiders (1-3) for the second consecutive game, 14-4, on Friday night.
Travis Sheffield utilized five different pitchers with all of them throwing one inning each. Jayden Hathcock got the start on the mound, striking out the side to open the game on 15 pitches. Wickey Parker came on for the second inning in his first appearance of the season, giving up one earned run on a pair of hits while striking out two batters on 16 pitches. Jordan Childress, Cascade’s everyday shortstop, worked the third inning, allowing just one Raider to reach base via a walk while striking out two on 21 pitches.
Caleb Crouch, a sophomore transfer from Coffee County who is the starting second-baseman, came on for the fourth inning, giving up two unearned runs on a pair of hits and one walk while striking out one batter on 35 pitches. Elijah Wesenberg closed out the game in the fifth inning, giving up one earned run on a solo home run. He gave out one free pass afterwards while also striking out a batter on 15 pitches.
After scoring seven runs in the first inning in the midweek game against Richland, Cascade put together a six-run opening frame on Friday. Childress launched a leadoff home run to left field for his second round-tripper of the season. Xykaiah Dixon followed that up with a double, then advanced to third on a wild pitch in the next at-bat. Wickey Parker grounded out to first, but drove home Dixon to give Cascade a 2-0 lead.
Following a walk by Thomas Demartelaere and a double from Hathcock, Jaxson Milliken launched Cascade’s second home run of the inning, clearing the bases and growing the lead to 5-0.
Richland changed pitchers, then Crouch reached on an error before he was driven home by River Maddox on an RBI-single to left field.
In the second inning, Demartelaere led off with a double to center, followed by Hathcock launching his first home run of the season over the right field wall to expand the lead to 8-0. The Champs tacked on another run after an error allowed Crouch to score, and then Parker cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to balloon the lead to 12-0. Demartelaere drove home Parker on a liner to left for his second hit of the inning to end the second inning up by 13 runs.
Richland responded with one run in the second. Neither team scored in the third before the Raiders tacked on two more in the fourth. Cascade added their final run of the night in the top of the fifth for run-rule insurance after an Isaac Winton double drove home Crouch. The hosts tacked on one more run with their first homer of the night, but could not get within less than 10 runs, allowing the Champions to lock up their third-consecutive win in five innings, 14-4.
Cascade improves to 3-0 and are scheduled to play Marion County in the Rebel Classic on Thursday night with first-pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
