MANCHESTER, Tenn. – After trailing by two runs heading into the sixth inning, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (15-4, 3-2) rallied to beat Coffee County (13-8, 2-3) in game one of their District 6-AAAA series on Monday night, 6-2 after eight innings.

Case Davis launched a go-ahead 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to spark a four-run frame that secured the win for the visitors. This was Davis’ first round-tripper of the season.

Brody Thomas got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles, and he was able to work around six walks by giving up just three base hits in 4.1 innings of work that resulted in a measly two earned runs on 84 pitches. Ashton Whorley came on in relief to throw 2.2 innings of no-hit ball, walking a pair of batters in the process. Finally, Stephen Bobo returned to the mound and slammed the door shut on the Red Raiders in the bottom of the eighth, striking out two batters on 11 pitches.

Coffee County’s Davis McKenzie started on the mound for the hosts, pitching a full 7.0 innings and finishing with nine strikeouts on 100 pitches. McKenzie conceded two earned runs on four hits and three walks. Jace Cashian came on to pitch the top of the eighth, but he gave up five hits with just one strikeout that resulted in four earned runs for Shelbyville Central.

The Red Raiders put up one run in the first inning after taking advantage of Thomas struggling to find the zone. The hosts tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth when Jaxon Pruitt doubled and was brought home on an RBI-single from Grayson Sadley to take a 2-0 lead.

Shelbyville Central continued to put together quality at-bats, but it was unable to generate any runs to show for its efforts until the top of the sixth inning. Caden Peacock, who finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple, drove home a pair of runs to tie the game up at 2-2 and send it to extras.

In the eighth inning, Stephen Bobo led off with a bunt single before Davis launched his first home run of the season to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the night, 4-2. Thomas followed up with a bunt single of his own, Peacock tallied a single, and then with one out, Ashton Whorley singled home Thomas to extend the lead to 5-2. Then, with two outs, Miles McCullough delivered his first hit of the night to drive home the sixth and final run of the night.

At the plate for Shelbyville Central, McCullough led off and hit 1-for-5 with an RBI, Blake Bone went 1-for-3 with two walks, and Bobo finished 1-for-5 with a run scored. Davis went 1-for-2 with his 2-run home run along with a pair of walks, Thomas finished 1-for-4, and Peacock hit a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Whorley also went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Shelbyville Central looks to complete the sweep at home on Tuesday night with first-pitch set for 6:00 p.m. Kaleb Maillet is the projected starter for the Golden Eagles.
